Computer scientist: Over 22 years with incredibly talented colleagues
I have worked at Cirkom since January 2000, more than 22 years. And with the best will in the world, I can’t think of a time I’ve ever regretted starting here.
There are several good reasons why I’ve been with Cirkom for so many years, and I’d like to share some of them with you.
Cirkom is a small, respected and highly competent company with roots in the pharmaceutical industry and specialized in process automation solutions.
For me, Cirkom is also a workplace where quality and knowledge make it exciting to go to work. There is trust and respect for each employee’s skills, and there is a high level of close collaboration between colleagues across different areas of expertise. Everyone is highly skilled, from management, administration, customer support and sparring, process knowledge, project management, PLC programming to SCADA development and quality assurance.
On a personal level, I would describe Cirkom as a workplace that has everything I want in a workplace. They value the skills and personality of each individual and take pride in their employees.
I develop interfaces for our solutions
My own role is the development of Visual basic and .NET programs. This means that I help develop interfaces for the solutions we deliver. I originally trained as a computer scientist, one of the very first in Denmark, so I’m also a database specialist. I’m quite proud of the fact that twenty years ago I helped develop the database structure that is still used for our programs.
In recent years, more and more of my time has been spent on quality assurance in the form of document creation (test plans, protocols, etc.) and review. It suits me really well because I’m very detail-oriented, a perfectionist perhaps, and I’m also confident that we deliver good quality in our tasks.
We are everywhere in the customer’s processes
The majority of our customers are pharmaceutical manufacturing companies and we always have many exciting projects. This could be the installation of a few new measuring points such as temperature or pressure gauges to be incorporated into existing systems. Or it could be converting old systems to new ones.
It can also be the development of entirely new plants or the development of systems for entirely new factories. Or it could be consulting and sparring with customers to improve their quality assurance or developing very specific systems for e.g. production. There’s no place in our customers’ processes that we don’t go.
Cirkom is a safe place to work
At Cirkom, we are colleagues who are socially close to each other, even in our private lives. There is always understanding and help available.
One of the things I really appreciate is that Cirkom has always been a safe place to work. When I say safe, I mean that I have a job where I feel appreciated for my efforts. But I also believe that I am respected and acknowledged for my private persona. Cirkom is a place where personal challenges are always taken into account.
We get experiences beyond a normal workday
I also think we are an informal and fun place to work, where the company goes out of its way to give employees experiences beyond a normal working day.
We’re a small company, but we do a lot to ensure that we find joy and experiences together. For example, we can barbecue in the summer for lunch, and we are often invited to the cinema or theater together. And then we have some great Christmas parties and Cirkom days, where we always try new things like go-karting or curling.
I certainly don’t know of anywhere else where they have the same privileges.
New colleagues develop their understanding of process knowledge
My colleagues’ skills are spread across project management, customer consulting, PLC programming, electrical documentation, hardware management and procurement, SCADA development, database design and development, and historical data logging. Computer, network and security setup, specific interface program development, documentation, quality assurance and test execution. (If I’ve forgotten something, it’s not intentional).
In other words, a range and depth that covers all aspects of automation development, from user requirements to implementation, from qualification to a finished product/system. Except, of course, for the actual development of hardware components and physical machines. This means that everyone who comes to Cirkom has or develops their understanding of process knowledge, depending on the project task.
There’s always help for new colleagues
I think Cirkom is a great place for new employees. There is a very flat organizational structure, so they must be able to act independently and they must be able to collaborate closely and across work areas other than their own area of expertise.
But it’s also a development that Cirkom is helping to support, so you have to be ready for new challenges and ready to receive new knowledge.
In general, you have to be ready to learn all the time, because as a new colleague, you may be thrown into a lot of independent work early on in your employment. But you’re never alone. All colleagues are very competent, and everyone is ready to support you, and no one blames you for anything if there are things you don’t quite understand. It will come.
A workplace that shows and instills trust
I myself am in Flexjob, and Cirkom has been there for me throughout the process. They’ve changed tasks to maximize my resources so that I can perform at my best and still be happy every day I go to work.
If you’ve read this far, you’ll know that I’m really proud to work in a place where I have such great colleagues. Colleagues who help improve my quality of work and make my days at work fun and enjoyable.
A workplace with a great environment and a great location, where you can sit every day and enjoy the view of the fields and water with deer and foxes prancing just outside your office space.
A workplace that shows and instills trust.
I can’t think of anywhere else that can give me the same things, so that’s why I’ve been here for so long.
