Engineer: My colleagues make me better every day
Palle Toftehøj has workedat Cirkom since the company was established. After 20 years, he still can’t imagine working anywhere else, and for a very specific reason. Cirkom is a workplace with high ceilings and where employees feel valued.
“The social work environment makes a crucial difference. We hug each other, talk about family and leisure with each other, and there’s no hierarchy. The people around me often envy Cirkom as a workplace. I can’t really imagine a better place to be,” Palle Toftehøj answers when asked why he has been with Cirkom for so many years.
Quality assurance, barbecue fun and privacy
Most people experience certain challenges in life throughout their 20s. This has also been the case for Palle Toftehøj. For him, this has meant, among other things, moving from a full-time position to flextime. However, this change has not been problematic for Cirkom. Palle Toftehøj has adapted his work tasks so that he can handle everyday life.
“I’ve experienced a lot of flexibility in terms of my job situation. Management has prioritized my needs and found tasks that I can handle. It’s nice that you can always come and talk about the challenges you have in your personal life. We always find a solution to work-related issues, and it’s management’s way of showing employees that they value us,” says Palle Toftehøj and continues:
“The management style is also effective in creating a good working environment and team spirit. We want to spend time together, and in the summer we have barbecues at each other’s houses. Cirkom is located in a beautiful location overlooking Roskilde Fjord and beautiful nature. During the lunch break, we go on walks where you can see foxes and deer.”
High-quality automation comes from a strong community
Palle Toftehøj is a computer scientist and worked as a consultant at Novo Nordisk before co-founding Cirkom. In his current position, he works with coding, quality assurance and documentation.
“I am very data-conscious and have helped develop a batch system that is used by many customers today. Before I started working flextime, I spent a lot of time at customer sites testing the systems, as I like working with quality assurance. Today, I work in the office, but I still do documentation and quality assurance of, among other things, PLC solutions,” says Palle Toftehøj and continues:
“I am the only computer scientist at Cirkom. Most employees are engineers, but we complement each other well. And that’s actually what I think characterizes Cirkom. We all have different skills with different backgrounds. Therefore, we are well covered all the way around when it comes to offering sparring, testing, programming and documentation. It’s very satisfying to work together to deliver great solutions to customers.”
PLC control and coding is still challenging after 20 years
Cirkom employees are constantly challenged on their skills as technology continues to evolve.
“Even though I’ve worked in the same place for 20 years, I still need to be able to adapt when new systems come along that I have to deal with. If Windows updates their versions, I need to figure out how the programs can run on new servers. It could also be that customers need new servers. My skills in quality assurance also play a major role here,” says Palle Toftehøj.
